Homemade Mixture | Diwali Savoury Recipe !

Mixture is a very tempting snack, I prepared this for diwali. I have already posted Aval Pori Masala Mix here. This is very tasty and crunchy.


Ingredients
Omapodi - 1 cup (click here for recipe)
Ribbon Pakoda - 1/2 cup (click here for recipe)
Mullu Murukku - 2nos crushed (click here for recipe)
Karaboondi - 1 cup(click here for recipe)
Thatai - 2nos crushed

To Deep Fry
Roasted or Fried Groundnuts - 1 tablespoon
Potukadalai/Fried gram - 1 tablespoon
Aval - 2 cups thin
Curry leaves - few
Copra - 1 tablespoon(chopped thinly)
Mochai - 1 tspn
Cashews/Almonds /Walnuts- few
Cornflakes/Chivda - 1/2 cup(Optional)

Powdered Sugar - 1/2 tspn
Turmeric - a pinch(optional)
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tspn 
Hing -1/4 tspn
Raisins - few
Potato sticks  1 cup(Optional)
Oil for deep frying and a metal seive with handle.

Preparation Method
Heat a kadai with oil. When oil is hot, deep fry ingredients above separately. Take this on a tissue paper to remove excess oil and then transfer to a wide vessel, sprinkle salt, hing, turmeric, red chilli powder and mix well. Add rest of the ingredients and mix.

Finally add powdered sugar and mix. I love this with potato sticks.

Store it in a airtight container for later use.

Homemade Mixture is ready.

Enjoy with Hot Coffee/Tea or with sambar rice or rasam rice.

Notes - You can also deep fry potato sticks and add.

Simple Veggie Aval Upma with Leftover curry | Lunch Box Spl

This tiffin I prepared for evening with leftover curry. It was quick and tasty dish.


Ingredients
Leftover curry - 1 cup(For choice of poriyal click here.)
Aval/Poha - 3 cups
Onion - 1 no
Green chilli - 1no
Oil - 1/2 tspn
Curry leaves few
Turmeric powder - a pinch.
Salt

Preparation Method
Wash and rinse aval in water.
Heat a kadai, add oil and onion. Saute for few minutes.
Add the curry and saute for few mins.
Add the Aval/poha and saute.
Add a pinch of salt. Mix well and off the stove.

Delicious Veggie Aval Upma is ready. Enjoy with Hot Coffee.

Aval Oats Dosai!!!

This is an easy and quick dosai, was thinking what to do with aval/poha/rice flakes. Took it to make Aval Upma and ended up with dosai. My family like it too.


Ingredients
Aval/Poha/Rice flakes - 3 cups (thin or thick)
Oats - 1 cup(I used quaker quick cook oats)
Green chilli - 1 no(As per your taste)
Rice flour - 2 table spoons

Seasoning/Talipu
Oil - 1 tspn
Mustard - 1/4 tspn
Hing - 2 pinches
Jeera/Cumin - 1/2 tspn
Coriander/cilantro leaves chopped - 2 tspns
Salt

Preparation Method
Wash and rinse aval, leave it for few minutes.
Add oats, green chilli, water and grind to fine paste in a mixie or blender.
Now season the batter with the above ingredients.
Add rice flour and mix well without lumps. Add water if required.
Heat a tawa/skillet and pour the batter slowly. Do not spread, it will spread by itself. It will take sometime to cook. Wait and slowly turn around.
Put oil and steam both sides.


Soft and Crispy Aval Oats Dosai is ready. Serve hot with Coconut chutney or Molagai Podi.

Notes - If you have time you can mix and leave the batter for 1 to 2 hrs and then make dosas.

Veggie Aval Upma and the Winner!!!

Aval/Rice Flakes is a main ingredient for Gokulashtami/Krishna Jayanthi. Here is a simple and colourful vegetable upma. This is ideal for breakfast or tiffin.

Ingredients
Aval/Rice Flakes - 2 cups
Mixed Vegetable (Carrot/Peas/Cabbage/Cauliflower)- 1 cup
Fresh Grated Coconut - 2 tspns
Oil - 1 tspn
Mustard - a pinch
Asafotida - a pinch
Jeera - 1/4 tspn
Curry leaves - few chopped
Channal Dal - 1/2 tspn
Green chilli - 2 nos
Salt

Preparation Method
Wash, Rinse the aval. Remove water and keep aside.
In a kadai/wok, add oil mustard. Wait till it splutters. Now add asafotida, jeera and channa dal. saute till its brown.
Add curry leaves, green chilli and saute for a minute.(You can slit the g.chilli or chop into small pieces)
Add the vegetables, little salt and cook it.
When its cooked add aval and salt and mix well.

Garnish with Fresh Grated coconut.

Veggie Aval Upma is ready to serve.

Sweet Aval/Poha with Milk my 200th Post

I am posting Sweet Aval/Poha with Milk as it my 200th Post. Am very Happy Friends Thanks a lot. This is very simple and easy to prepare. It needs no cooking too... This is quick and tasty I usually prepare when I am alone and lazy to cook for me.
Ingredients
Aval/Poha/Rice Flakes - 2 cups (Thick or thin)
Milk - 1 cup (Warm milk Optional)
Sugar - 2 tspn(As per your taste)
Fresh Grated Coconut - 2 tspns
Elachi powder/Cardamom powder - a pinch

Preparation Method

Wash and Rinse Aval in water. Soak it in Milk for 15mins.
Then add all other ingredients and mix well. Leave it for 5mins.

Garnish with chopped dates and Serve. Kids will love it.

Aval Pori Masala Mix


Aval Pori Masala Mix is very tasty savoury. This is very simple and easy to prepare.
This recipe is very different from normal recipes.


Ingredients
Aval (Thick Rice Flakes) - 2 cups
Curry leaves - Few
Groundnuts - 2 tspns
Oil for deep frying - 2 cups
Asafotida(Hing) - 1 pinch
Pottukadalai(Fried gram) - 2 tspns
Manjal(Turmeric powder) - a pinch
Dry Red chilli or chilli powder - 2 nos (as per your taste)
Copra(Dry coconut) - Few pieces finely sliced
Salt to taste
Preparation Method
Heat a Kadai with oil. You can use a metal seive dip in oil and slowly deep fry Aval little by little. Put in a wide bowl. Sprinkle salt and mix well.
In a sauce pan, heat little oil, put hing, ground nuts, Red chilli, Fried gram, dry coconut, cashews, turmeric powder, curry leaves and fry till brown .
Now add to Aval mixture and mix well.


Aval Pori masala mix is ready to serve. This can be served with tea or coffee or with any sweets.
